The beautiful Forsyth fountain landmark in Savannah, GA.
Savannah, GA, a city full of history, beauty, character, and so much more. It is the place I call home and a place the film industry has also taken a liking too. It is a hotspot for film and is only continuing to grow. The first high profile film to come to Savannah was, Cape Fear, in 1962. This film put Savannah on the map in the film industry. A few other films continued to come to Savannah, such as Gator, The Ordeal of Dr. Mudd, The Longest Yard, and many others. Glory, filmed in 1989, and Forrest Gump, filmed in 1994, paved the way to putting Savannah on the Hollywood map. Films continued to flood in such as, Forces of Nature, The General’s Daughter, Gingerbread Man, and many others. A film that resulted in a lot of buzz for Savannah was the 2009 filming of The Last Song, starring Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsowrth. This was later followed by Baywatch, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron which was filmed in 2016. In recent years, Will Smith starred in Gemini Man that began filming at the beginning of 2017. At the end of 2018, the live action remake of Lady and The Tramp began filming in Savannah.

Savannah was turned into a Winter Wonderland during the filming of the live action, Lady and the Tramp.
This is only to name a few. There has also been a large number of TV shows that have come to Savannah. Recently, the Amazon series, The Underground Railroad, began filming. They had to stop filming with only three days left, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were finally able to wrap filming in September of this year. With production slowly being able to resume a new film, Alice has officially begun production in Savannah. This film stars Keke Palmer, Common, and Jonny Lee Miller. It is a thriller about a woman who escapes slavery, but then finds herself in 1973. This is the first film to be fully filmed in Savannah since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down production. This film is set in Georgia, so the Savannah location was a perfect fit. The cast and crew instantly fell in love with Savannah and all of the history, charm, and beauty it holds. They also fell in love with the locals and their willingness to open up the city and to jump on the opportunity of being an extra in the film.

Kaka Palmer stars in the new film, Alice
This movie coming to Savannah is the relighting of the fire for the film industry in Savannah after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. Savannah is also home to the world renowned, Savannah College of Art and Design, where many of the film students have produced beautiful work using the Savannah backdrop. Savannah is a city near and dear to my heart and I love seeing it displayed on the big screen. It is a beautiful city with lots to offer and lots of character that is a wonderful backdrop for any film. I hope to further watch Savannah make strides in the film industry and continue to welcome new productions.
